Over the past few weeks, the MBTAG team have been looking at how best to move forward with the Scotland Starts Here consumer marketing activity and the on-going development of our travel trade programme and engagement. As everyone is acutely aware, the world’s focus just now is on staying home and reducing the threat of COVID-19. People can’t travel, most our region’s tourism businesses are temporarily closed and visitors aren’t receptive to destination marketing.
The MBTAG steering group have therefore decided to temporarily pause the majority of our planned activity. If we reduce spend now, we’ll ensure we have enough funds in place to come back with as big an impact as possible when the time is right.
This does mean you will hear less from us for a while than you normally do, but the team are currently working behind the scenes on revising the work plan and we are in constant contact with VisitScotland who are monitoring domestic and international travel behaviour in addition to us speaking with other industry partners across Scotland, reviewing other trends and behaviours and Jemma is working with other destinations on a group to discuss the recovery of tourism for Scotland.
Our Steering Group will review this regularly alongside Government guidelines on travel and once visitors start planning visits once again, the full MBTAG programme will be back.
In the meantime, Vanessa will be doing some low-level social media activity to keep Scotland Starts Here content fresh and to maintain a level of engagement – do keep sharing our content and sending us yours.
Please be reassured that supporting Scottish Borders and Midlothian tourism businesses is at the forefront of our minds. We know every single one of you has been affected by this totally unprecedented situation and for many the future is very unclear. This revision of our plan means we can support you and the recovery of the region’s tourism when it’s needed most.
We hope many of you have already been able to access the information you need in order to apply for business support grants or loans. I have attached a PDF with full links, details and support for our sector summarising all key links. Please keep up to date with the core organisations announcements and discussions with the Scottish Government as things evolve. Please also ensure you raise your concerns to these industry leaders and your local MSPs directly. Collectively, we will take the steps forward and get the help that is needed. I have also attached a document that was forwarded onto me which details how to access support in Scotland. These documents will also be uploaded to the MBTAG website.
If you enquiry is urgent however, you can reach me on my mobile. Otherwise in the meantime stay safe, keep well and keep fighting.. we will get through this together.
We will be in touch very soon..
Jemma, Yvonne, Vanessa & MBTAG Steering Group.
